A lot is riding on this convention. Either future cheating will be thwarted or it will become an ordinary mainstay of the CRA.
Either Romney will have the 2012 endorsement secured or he is doomed to lose it no matter what else Reade does.

Reade addressing Republican Women of Redding in 2007. He told them he didn't know it would be "this" bad referring to Gov. Schwarzenegger.
So how "bad" did he think it 'would' be?
Reade rejected all conservative appeals to stick with Tom McClintock even though Gallop polls had shown that no matter who the GOP candidate was they would handily beat Bustemonte.
For the first time since Ronald Reagan the Republicans would have an easy win no matter who the GOP candidate. There was no need to compromise with a RINO candidate. CA could have had a conservative Republican governor again.
But, just as the CA GOP never wanted Reagan they didn't want McClintock either.

A mere appearance of distortion doesn't prove illegality

State Senator Doug LaMalfa
Benefactor of Reade maniupulation of CRA endorsement conventions
What!? You have a problem with with a flock of family members suddenly showing up as delegates at a Butte County endorsement convention?
How about that loyal farmhand, and his wife, willing to suddenly join and vote for Doug.
Good thing too, because farmer Doug would have lost the endorsement without them.

Commentary -- Wednesday, April 13, 2011
THE KARL ROVE-WANNABE OF CA
Will he secure the CRA endorsement for Romney again?
Grassroots conservative members of the California Republican Assembly (CRA) have been fuming ever since Mitt Romney purchased the CRA presidential endorsement in 2007. Disgust was immediately evident on
conservative blogs
Conservatives smelled a rat, even if they had not attended the convention. The statewide stench was unmistakable.
Leading rat, of the smelly rat pack, was David Reade.
Those who like Reade have called him
"the Karl Rove of north state politics."
Reade "beams"
at such references.
On behalf of the Romney Campaign, Reade arranged, along with
Karen England (Capitol Resource Institute),
a sudden onslaught of newly chartered CRA chapters around the state.
A
check ($2.625) from the Romney campaign
covered the cost of convention fees for the brand new delegates and others, totaling 75 bought and paid for, many from apparently bogus chapters.
Reade personally turned in the long list of prepaid Romney delegates with no sense of shame whatsoever. And why not? The convention rules, and bylaws, had nothing in them to stop him.
No convention rules required delegates to represent strictly their own counties. No convention rules, or bylaws, prevented paid political consultants, or paid campaign staffers, from being delegates or to prevent politicians from paying their way.
No proof of a new chapter's existence, minutes, attendance records, nor constitution is requested.
No rules required proof that new members joined within the required 30 days prior to delegate elections.

With rules so naive, and lax, no political strategist need worry about having to be as smart as Karl Rove. This has been too easy.

With rules so naive, lax and a Membership Director.Credentials Chairman all too happy to go along, no political strategist need worry about having to be as smart as Karl Rove. This has been too easy.
No convention rules are published on the CRA website. Neither are they routinely passed out to chapter board members. There is no information by which CRA membership can hold CRA administration accountable to abide by the rules.
The Reade hijacking of the CRA has triggered a huge rift within the CRA.
|
March 2010: David Reade (left) at the helm for Meg Whitman at the 2010 Knotts Berry Farm CRA gubernatorial endorsing convention.
He was both a CRA convention delegate and a paid political consultant.

Having seen Reade maneuver a CRA endorsement for Romney, Whitman had good reason to hope that even a pro-abortion RINO like she could win a CRA endorsement. RULE #1 for mercenary political consultants: Know thy loopholes.
Reade & Co. were there making raucous noise to support their obligatory objections to anything that didn't help Whitman. Romney and Schwarzennegger shared many common staff members and Reade had them there for Whitman.
Other benefactors of Reade's bending of the rules to obtain endorsements, by rigged delegates, include State Senator Doug LaMalfa and Assembly Jim Nielsen. Reportedly brand new Butte County delegates consisted of about eight LaMalfa family members and a farm hand with wife in tow. It succeeded in stealing the endorsement victory from Rick Keene.

CRA Membership Secretary Peggy Mew has refused to reveal credentialing records (assuming any were even kept) making finding the truth extremely difficult and thus assuring protection of
the Reade/England alliance.
According to CRA VP Cliff Wagner the Placer County CRA Credentials Committee members are having to look up voter registrations one at a time in order to locate the fake delegates.
Wagner reports
that when be brought his concerns, over fake chapters and delegates, to CRA Secretary, Peggy Mew, she "singlehandedly blocked" all efforts to address these concerns.
Gentleman's agreement has prevailed and proof of integrity has customarily not been required. The determining of ethical standards has been fluid, biased, and narrowed to a small alliance of people who are very accustomed to not being questioned. Requests for such proof have been greeted with a "how dare you" attitude.
Snappy retorts insist no rules were broken. No matter that the dishonest behavior has rendered the CRA endorsements meaningless.
Those requesting accountability have been demonized.
In preparation for the April 15th CRA elections, RINOs are repeating the same mode of action as with the Romney/Whitman campaigns. Reportedly approximately 2/3 of the CRA units supporting Karen England, to be the new CRA president, have delegate irregularities.
CRA membership has basically been reduced to little more than groups of hired campaign/political consultants representing their candidates.
But, that may change at the upcoming April 15th CRA convention in Sacramento.

CRA membership has basically been reduced to little more than groups of hired campaign/political consultants representing their candidates.
But, that may change at the upcoming April 15th CRA convention in Sacramento.
Last week the CRA state board members voted to change county residency rules. CRA members would now be confined to representing only their own counties.
However, final approval must be made at the April 15th convention by the total membership. Here is where the nasty game playing begins, AGAIN, in earnest.
Those who support amending the rules, to prevent any more RINO political consultant takeovers, are supporting Celeste Grieg for CRA president. Her team is represented by
"Contract With the CRA."
Karen England, and those fighting against the new rules amendments, have organized their own conservative-looking campaign page;
Restore The CRA.
As usual "Reagan leaches" are everywhere. Use of Reagan's pictures, videos and words are being used by RINOs who have no intention of doing what Reagan would do.
England hasn't taken kindly to conservative blog reports on her political tactics and alliances. Accusations have escalated into threats of lawsuits.
Blogger Aaron Park (and CRA member)
of RightOnDaily.com
received a
whining letter
from England attorneys threatening a lawsuit if he did not retract his published opinions.
The accusations of fraud by the Contract With the CRA side have been supported by
published document copies
and many hours of investigation. They have been completely open as to their identities in all emails and published commentaries.
Anonymous emails, from "cratruth@gmail.com," have been sent making accusations of wrong doing against all those who want better rules. The emails provide no evidence to support their claims.
Furthermore, the emails are basically asking readers to believe that those fighting for rules, intended to end further fraud, are the ones committing the very fraud they are trying to stop.
Interesting twist.
All future chances for convention cheating depend upon the degree of success of cheating at this convention. Romney cannot be nearly guaranteed the 2012 endorsement unless the Restore the CRA group succeeds.
A lot is riding on this convention. Either future cheating will be thwarted or it will become an ordinary mainstay of the CRA. Either Romney will have the endorsement secured or he is doomed to lose it no matter what else Reade does.
Nobody knows this better than Reade.
